If you suffer from back pain, you might want to stay away from some traditional types of cardio exercise (such as cycling) that keeps your spine in a forward flexed position, which could aggravate an existing back condition. Instead, we’ll focus on movements that keep your spine in a neutral position which may feel more comfortable.

In this short workout video, I’ll show you some of my favorite cardio exercises that can help you build fitness and burn calories without stressing your back.

And of course, it’s important to note that weight loss happens with a combination of exercise and healthy eating. In order to lose weight you’ll need to create a caloric deficit, so sure to pair your workouts with a healthy diet that is under your daily calorie needs in order to shed pounds effectively (a great formula I recommend for safe and steady weight loss is consuming 250 calories less and burning an extra 250 calories per day).

Level: Beginner/Intermediate

Equipment: A step (optional)

Intensity: Moderate

Please note: Not all exercises are suitable for everyone. If you are working with a specific back injury, be sure to get your doctor and/or physical therapist’s approval before attempting this workout. This is a total body workout to do first thing in the morning! They are low impact so you can do them in your pyjamas (without any undies on!) I offered beginners and also advance version if you feel like challenging yourself. =)

Exercises
1) Kneel to Squat Pulses
2) Alternate Lunge Touch Down
3) Plank Hop to Push-up
4) Plank Jacks
5) Dolphin Plank
6) Groiners
7) Half V to Knee Tucks

Sequence: 14 Intervals (45secs Workout – 15secs Rest)
Total Time: 15 minutes (2 sets)
1 minute rest in between sets
Best Results: Do this workout daily to kickstart your day! If you keep it consistent, you will see results – lose weight & tone up. Remember to include total body strength training and also cardio exercises.

To progress:
– Perform 3-4 sets.
– Lift some weights to make the exercises tougher
– Choose the advance version

Hi guys! Follow me to the gym for a killer cardio session 🙂 This session is perfect if you are short in time but wan’t to work your body effectively after a gym workout. This is a HIIT workout, high intensity interval training, which is good for burning fat and at the same time keeping your muscle mass. I also talk a bit about fat burning in general and how you can’t target burn fat from a specific place, like do sit-ups to burn fat from your belly and get a six pack, no no. It doesn’t work like that. So here you go, hopefully a useful cardio workout and also my cardio philosophy on top of that! Much love!
